Have fun with your dog while learning handling basics including AKC commands, socialization skills, agility, bite prevention, responsible ownership, grooming and health care tips. Minimum age for dogs is 5 months, and they must have current vaccinations. Students must be able to physically control the dog on leash and collar. Parents and other family members are welcome to stay and assist child and dog. Missed classes may be made up in the next session.

Learn to play African Marimba in a full-ensemble setting! MArimbas are melodic percussion instruments very similar to xylophones. In this beginning session, you'll learn basic mallet technique, basic rhythmic patterns and simple melodic and harmonic structure. You'll also learn ensemble skills required within a typical African marimba ensemble-playing in time with a group, holding circular patterns and recognizing and responding to musical cues. This African style of marimba music is engaging, entrancing and addictive!

BEGINNING ACOUSTIC RHYTHM GUITAR

Learn basic guitar chord formation and timing necessary to play your favorite songs. You will be introduced to cross-picking, flat-picking, and some fun shortcuts used in American Roots music styles, touching on Old Time, Folk, Rock Roots, Country and Bluegrass. With this teaching method you will learn faster and want to practice more often. Students must bring their own guitars. Steel-stringed guitars with light or medium gauge strings are recommended. A classical nylon string guitar is acceptable, too. A $10 materials fee will be payable to the instructor at the first class for a guitar instruction book. Doug Montgomery has played drums and guitar for most of his life, focusing on guitar for the past 20 years. He is a member of the California Bluegrass Association and specializes in Crosspicking and Flatpicking.

INTERMEDIATE ACOUSTIC RHYTHM GUITAR

Continue honing your guitar playing skills in this intermediate level class. Clas size will be kept small so that we can focus on doing more work close up. You will learn to connect chords in different ways, work on your timing and strumming patterns, use a capo to transpose songs and read tablature so you can play individual notes. Students will work on songs that they bring to class. We will discuss individual playing as well as group playing and jamming etiquette do's and don'ts. Students must bring their own acoustic guitars, and should have a basic understanding of music and be able to play songs on the guitar.
