TAI CHI CHIH - A MOVING MEDITATION
Diane See
“T’ai Chi Chih” (www.taichichih.org) is a moving meditation that focuses on a soft flowing continuity of motion. The beauty of T’ai Chi Chih (pronounced chuh) is that the most benefit results from the least amount of effort. That’s why it is as valuable for healthy active young people as it is for older people or anyone with disabilities. The purpose of aiming for effortless movement is that muscles can relax, joints can open, breath becomes free and natural, and the mind becomes calm. That’s why T’ai Chi Chih is described as Joy Thru Movement. In my classes I teach the whole series of 19 flowing movements and a final standing meditation pose, in a continuous forty-minute practice. Students learn by following, with gentle guidance, gradually improving their understanding of the principles. The most important principles are relaxation and alignment, which allow for effortless movement. When the structure of the body is aligned and balance is achieved, the life force energy, called chi or qi, is free to flow, bringing health and vitality. During these exciting and intense times T’ai Chi Chih can be a blessing.

Diane See
In this new interactive class Diane will share her experience and wisdom about natural self-healing, with the focus on Aging Gracefully. Since aging is a continuous process starting at birth, everyone can benefit from the ideas and information offered! In fact, the sooner we begin applying them, the greater the advantages. Diane taught this course, formerly called Mind-Body Health, for 13 years at City College San Francisco’s Older Adults Department. Her two books, Relax, Breathe, Smile and The Healer is You, are based on that course, and will be used as the curriculum for this class.
