After a short lesson in kayak handling, we’ll explore the waterways and enjoy the wildlife - Elkhorn Slough provides habitat for a variety of plants and animals, including more than 340 species of birds. Single and double sea kayaks are available. All equipment and a light lunch will be provided; please bring a snack. Dave will call everyone before the class to give you exact directions and instructions.

Sailing classes are offered in partnership with Marc Kraft, Pacific Yachting & Sailing, 790 Mariner Parkway, Santa Cruz.

SAILING & SEAMANSHIP
Learn to sail on the Monterey Bay in these fun, safe, educational, and relaxing classes. The hands-on instruction will provide you with the skills and confidence you need to safely skipper or crew a 22’ to 27’ tiller sailboat in light to moderate wind and sea conditions. The Basic Sailing & Seamanship course is the first two days of Pacific Yachting & Sailing’s 8-day, American Sailing Association Certification program taught by USCG Licensed Captains (for more information, see www.pacificsail.com).
Please bring soft-soled shoes, warm windbreaker, sweater, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, drinking water and a lunch. An optional text book, Sailing Fundamentals, is available at Pacific Yachting office for a fee. Parking permits are also available in office for $5 per day.

LEARN TO SURF
Club Ed Instructors (464-0177)
Join the excellent staff of Club Ed Surf School and learn what you need to know to ride the waves! We’ll cover: equipment, ocean safety, wave formation, rip currents, and surfing etiquette, proper paddling techniques, wave positioning, and how to stand up and ride waves in one smooth motion. We spend most of the time in the water learning to surf, so a good wetsuit is needed. Wetsuits and surfboards can be rented for $15 each, and booties for $4/pair.
