Pre-School Classes

MOMMY OR DADDY & ME PLAY CLASSES
Samantha Lucas
This class helps children transition into a preschool or childcare setting. Your child will have fun with balls, toys, tunnels, tents, ramps and slides while also learning valuable social skills - and you bond with other parents! Each class will include a free exploration and circle time with songs, musical instruments, puppets, a parachute, and much more. A $3 materials fee is payable at the first class. No class on Friday, September 26th.

MOMMY/DADDY & ME BALLET
Jeani Mitchell
A wonderful introduction into the world of dance! Through simple basics, your child will start to learn about and develop coordination, balance, movement, and rhythm, and the ability to follow directions and work with a group. A great starting point prior to taking pre-ballet. Jeani has a secondary teaching credential in Physical Education with an emphasis in Dance and has been teaching in Santa Cruz for 33 years. An $8 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.

PRE-BALLET I & II

Enter the magical world of ballet, and such well-loved performances as the Nutcracker and Swan Lake! These classes will cover basic ballet positions and exercises, stretching, posture, and movement, and are designed to develop grace, coordination, creative expression, and body awareness. Jeani has a secondary treaching credential in Physical Education with emphasis in Dance, and has been teaching for over 33 years.
For both classes: Ballet shoes and leotards are required. An $8 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.

KOREAN MARTIAL ARTS: LITTLE TIGERS

The Little Tigers class is perfect for helping pre-schoolers develop coordination, concentration, balance, self-confidence, gross motor skills, and self-control. Little Tigers classes are non-stop action! Please note: This class is an introductory class only, and can be taken through the recreation department once. Students wishing to continue may sign up through the Korean Martial Arts Academy. No class on Monday, October 13.

MOTHER & CHILD PRENATAL YOGA

Stretch, relax & rejuvenate! Hatha Yoga, breathing and deep relaxation exercises help prepare you for birth while making pregnancy more comfortable. Appropriate for all stages of pregnancy. No prior experience necessary.

POST-PARTUM MOM & BABY YOGA & SUPPORT

Bring your baby to this post-partum yoga class that supports you in the transition to motherhood. Shannon has completed training with Robin Sale, CHT, CMT, Whole Birth Yoga for prenatal/postnatal yoga, and most recently taught at Dominican Hospital for the last 6 years. She is also a Certified Massage Therapist and Certified Infant Massage Instructor. A $2 materials fee is payable at the first class.

MOM/DAD & ME ART

Children, along with a special adult in their lives, get to “exercise” the right side of the brain by creating, imagining and playing with the arts. Relax, dabble, and explore tempera paints, oil pastels, watercolors, & clay. Adults will also receive mini lessons on how to most effectively support the young artist in every child. A $3 materials fee is payable at the first class.

CLAY PLAY
Deborah Stanley
Come play with clay and learn the basics of handbuilding while having fun. Guidance is focused on technique with simple "how-to" demos. Clay is non-toxic. Please wear clothes that can get stained or messy or bring a cover-up. An $15 materials fee is payable at the first class. Deborah is a professional artist and teacher with experience teaching art to adults and children.

SPANISH FOR KIDS

This highly engaging and fun class uses culturally-based music, games, art projects, and stories to teach kids to understand, and ultimately speak, a new language. The focus will be on the acquisition of vocabulary and practical conversation through a dynamic curriculum that encourages parent participation and communication. The creative use of posters, magnetic pictures and word cards, songs, games and multimedia materials will all play key roles in the Spanish learning experience. An $20 materials fee is payable at the first class.

TENNIS FOR LITTLE KIDS

A favorite program from the USPTA introduces young children to the joys of tennis while teaching valuable motor skills, social interaction, and concentration. Parent participation is required, so come and enjoy this fun time with your child! Paul, a USPTA certified pro, has taught children for over 30 years. A $3 ball fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.
